Some Observations on the Nest Site Selection, Nesting and Other Breeding Behaviors of Greater Adjutant Stork (Leptoptilos dubios) in the Flood Plains of Kosi River in District Bhagalpur, Bihar, India

Greater adjutant stork (Leptoptilos dubios) is the largest and rarest belonging to order Ciconiformes. It one of threatened bird species world widely considered be endangered. The present investigation was carried out study nest site selection, tree other breeding behaviours on flood plains Kosi river in district Bhagalpur, Bihar, India three seasons from 2019 2021. Total 12 colonies were recorded 2019, 10 2020 2021 respectively. During these periods, 277 chicks reared 123 nests 282 126 236 105 Most trees located road side around villages. Storks mainly selected Kadamb, Peepal, Pakar, Gamhar Semel for building but Kadamb most preffered species. Nesting materials used by GAS sticks, twigs fresh leaves Pigeon wood, Jalebia, Dhaincha, Jamun, Gulmohar, Semal tree. Nests large spherical structure made plant sticks mostly top tip horizontal branches. Both sexes alternately shared incubation protection after hatching. parent birds also collected green nearby cushioning . season between September April Bihar. period ranging 37 39 days. Two common. adult juveniles finally vacated before third week April.
